Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Milwaukee .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Milwaukee Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

Jonathan was a good instructor. He explained what we were doing and why we were doing it. I took a lot more away from the class than I thought I would.

I have always had the attitude that if I learn one thing from a training session, my time was well spent. I learned quite a bit from the event and found it well worth my time. I arrived with a great deal of trepidation and left with more confidence. To my surprise, I liked a couple of my photos so much that I immediately had them printed. Thank for the lesson!!

The session with Cory Rokes was exceptional. He covered a wide variety of technical issues, and perhaps more importantly, he did so in a manner that was understandable. He was completely open to any questions that we might have had. In fact, inhe encouraged questions and made sure that we were understanding the concepts and techniques. As I told Cory upon the end of the session, I was certain that it was very well worth my time. I will certainly sign up for other upcoming training sessions. Thank you for this opportunity.

The weather wasn't great, but at the same time I wanted to work with bad weather and see how I could make better shots in a day less than optimal for pictures. The class helped me gain confidence working with manual settings and have better understanding of the concept of the Exposure Triangle. Overall was great class.

We were very lucky to have great weather. I was a bit surprised that only two of us signed up for this program. Jason was very nice and shared a lot of ideas about Street Photography. I told him that I would consider doing this again in the future. I did hang out in Catalano Square for about another 30-40 min. shooting with a Lens Ball that I had with me.

Title or Location: The Shot I Didn?t Plan to Take
Sometimes the best discoveries are "happy accidents." On a 15-degree February morning, I was actually out at the lakefront scouting for sea birds and planning a sunrise shoot at the Calatrava. While my work usually focuses on wildlife, this winter I?ve been branching out into sunrise landscapes.I had been searching for the perfect angle of the breakwater lighthouse from several different spots, but when the sky caught fire that morning, I knew I had to move fast. I pivoted from my original pla

Title or Location: Milwaukee Art Museum, Lakefront in downtown Milwaukee, WI
This image was captured using a 20mm lens on a full frame camera. I and a few fellow photographers were meeting for a sunrise shoot. I was the first to arrive and captured this image before the sun even crested the horizon. The Milwaukee Art Museum is one of my favorite subjects to capture during sunrise. The structure is iconic and provides a wonderful foreground for a sunrise or in this case some dramatic clouds!

I like to catch the golden hour at sunrise. My goal that morning was to photograph the sunrise, without photographing the sunrise. The sparkling ripples caught my eye.

I was looking for Whimbrels, or other migratory shore birds when I spotted this common tern flying around. At some point it dove and caught a fish. I instinctively aimed my camera and took a few pictures before flying away.

Steam was really enshrouding the main pool of Grand Prismatic, so I looked for other compelling ways to capture images. This image features some of the sinter terraces and cooler water thermophiles thriving around the central pool perimeter.
